I have been studying what to do for a tractor for a long time, I guess too long, Two years now.I currently use a WheelHorse Garden Tractor on 2.5 acres of grass, and for snow on a 1100 foot drive on a 4+ acre parcel. On a new Tractor I want to do the same thing plus some landscaping chores.I know that for everything except the Drive and landscaping chores BIGGER is BETTER.But am I just being foolish getting a B2400, B2710 ,L3010 or should I be looking at BX subCompact machine?Any opinions for property in this size range appreciated.

Pete - you have opened up my favorite topic - spending other peoples money on small tractors! I own a Kubota B1700, 4 WD, hydro, with ag tires and a loader. No mower - I use a cheap MTD mower on my 5 acres of lawn and 4 of pasture because my land is so hilly the Kubota can't go all the places I need to mow. However, I do everything else you can imagine using the Kubota. I move dirt with the loader, dig up old fence posts usiong the 3 point and a tow chain, put in new fence posts, move dirt and snow with the rear blade, backfill with the loader, drag my riding arena , pull stuck cars out of the mud, pull trees out of the woods, and lots of other jobs, some big and some small. I have no hesitation in recommending a machine of this size (7300,1700,2100,2400) for the jobs I do. The BX looks interesting on paper (I have never seen one in real life) but it does give up quite a bit of loader power (480 pound lift vs 660 for my 1700) and 3 point lift (600 something vs a little over 1000 pounds) If you want to bounce ideas off of me, e-mail, I love to talk tractors!

My opinion is that I am sure that Kubota has done a top notch job here, and that the 4wd will certainly make it the best machine to buy over a garden tractor, I still think any compact buyer would be better off spending their money on the larger B series machines or any other color Compact rather than the subcompact. The fact is that people buy these machines and have an expectation that if they need to rent a tiller or harley rake or overseeder or some other very heavy implement that their huge investment will handle it. I think the BX will fall way short in this regard. But if you have no such intention then I think you will be happy with the BX as the Cadillac of GT genre, used for mowing and general promenading around the neighborhood. ....
